This section provides various sources describing the energy consumption of the industrial sector and the carbon emissions in particular.
- 2000 greenhouse gas emissions for locomotives were 37.2 TgCO2Eq (Teragrams of CO2 Equivalent)
- Energy use for Class 1 RR's was 504 trillion BTU for 2003 (data are for 2001 in the BTS publication) according to the BTS website.
