Dear Secretary O'Leary:

Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant is a participant in the Climate Challenge Program. The following list identifies the actions that our utility has taken since 1991, or will take by the year 2000 to reduce or prevent greenhouse gas emissions. The worksheets enclosed provide more specific information on carbon dioxide reduction:

Demand-side Management

  • Residential Home Energy Audits
  • Residential Lighting Efficiency
  • Residential Load Control
  • Commercial Lighting Efficiency
  • Large-Industrial Energy Audits

Generation

  • Renewable Generation

Transmission and Distribution System Improvements

  • Low Loss Transformers
  • Reconductoring
  • Voltage Optimization

Other

  • Electric Vehicle

Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant expects that the combination of these actions will reduce or prevent annual emissions of 56,849 tons of carbon dioxide in the year 2000. Furthermore, Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant will report annually, on a form provided by the Department of Energy/Energy Information Administration, on activities and achievements under the Climate Challenge Program.
