Re: Climate Challenge Program Participation

Dear Madam Secretary:

Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc., a distribution system serving 5,200 consumers total, agrees to participate in the Climate Challenge Program. The following list identifies the actions that our Cooperative has taken since 1991, or will take by the year 2000 to reduce or prevent greenhouse gas emissions. The enclosed Worksheet(s) and Worksheet Attachment(s) provide more specific information on these actions.

Marketing Demand-Side Management

  • Conservation Program for 1,100 Residences (completed by September 1995).

Load Control Demand-Side Management

  • Water Heater Control Program (completed 1992).

Transmission and Distribution Upgrades

  • Reconducting from 110 ACSR to 336 MCM ACSR (completed 1993).
  • Reconducting from 4 ACSR to 1/0 ACSR (partially complete 1994, final completion 1997).
  • Voltage conversion 12.6 kV to 34.5 kV (completed 1997).

Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. expects that the combination of these actions will reduce or prevent annual emissions of 2,033 tons of carbon dioxide in the year 2000. Furthermore, Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. will report annually, on a form provided by the Department of Energy/Energy Information Administration, on activities under the Climate Challenge Program.
