Re: Climate Challenge Program Participation
Dear Secretary O'Leary:
Anoka Municipal Utility agrees to participate in the Climate Challenge Program.
The following list identifies the actions that our utility has taken since
1991, or will take by the year 2000 to reduce or prevent greenhouse gas
emissions. The worksheet and attachment enclosed provide more specific
information on these options.
TREE PLANTING PROGRAM
We have planted 3,500 various pine trees and 100 boulevard trees in the years
1993, 1994 and will continue to plant boulevard trees in the following years.
DEMAND-SIDE MANAGEMENT
We offer appliance and HVAC rebates to our residential customers and also
Commercial Lighting rebates
TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS
We have converted our Goodrich Substation from 4.16 kv to 12.5 kv and are in
the process of converting our Park Street and Ferry Street Substations.
Anoka Municipal Utility expects that the combination of these actions will
reduce or prevent annual emissions of 1,167.5 tons of carbon dioxide in the
year 2000. Furthermore, Anoka Municipal Utility will report annually, on a
form provided by the Department of Energy/Energy Information Administration, on
activities and achievements under the Climate Challenge Program.
Sincerely,
(Original signed by)
